It’s officially the end of my 3 day vacay and I don’t know how I feel about it. On one hand, I’m (a little bit) glad to be home. On the other hand, I miss the beach. With my whole beach-bum-loving heart.
I just spent 2.5 glorious days in the Sunshine State and now I’m back to reality. And reality is that the most I have to look forward to this week is the few hours a day I get to watch The Office (which I could rant about the amazingness of but I’ll save that for a later post). And, ok, yes I got to see my family and my puppies which is wonderful. I also got to sleep in my own bed and eat 3 full meals a day. But does that really compare to the beach??? In my humble sassy opinion: heck. to. the. no.
Who could want to go home after waking up to that???
So let’s break it down here. 3 Day Vacay – Do It? Or Don’t It?
Our plane touched down on the holy land (aka: beach land) on Friday night around 8pm. With a one hour drive to our hotel, that put us on the beach (!) around 9pm. Since sitting on a plane doing absolutely nothing for 2 hours makes you equally exhausted and hungry, you have to take extra time to get something to eat before you can actually make it down to the sand. That means you probably get a good 30 minutes of quality time with the sea before it gets too cold and you have to trek back up to your room for the night. And just like that, day one of your beloved vacation time is gone. Fortunately, you may still be able to grab a couple good ocean pics even in the dark. Thank you technology and Boomerang.
The second and third days of your quick getaway are going to be the holy grail of your vacation. Seriously, the best days. You get to do with them what you will – completely free reign! I, of course, spent my days lounging in the sunshine, listening to the waves, and reading a book. Ok, two books. I read two books because I just can’t help it. But wherever your vacation may take you, these two days are the motherload. You want a drink? Nothing stopping you! You don’t have to wake up the next morning unless you want to. Want to take a nap? Hell yes. You take that nap and you take it good. My point it, enjoy these two days, because they’re most likely going to be what you remember.
Me? I remember waking up to see the sunrise, soaking up the sunshine, and walking around with my margarita bucket (which was hands down the best purchase I’ve ever made). That’s what I spent my two days on.
The last day? By far, the worst day. Once you start thinking about what you have to do once you get home, it’s hard to remember that you just spent two days in relaxation heaven. You have to pack up all your stuff and worry about making it to the airport on time. You might be like my family and almost wreck pulling out of the hotel, get lost trying to find the rental car return, and get to the airport WAY too early. Is that just me? I hope not.
You also may start wondering….what do I really have waiting at home for me? Why do I need to go back? When I started thinking about those things, coming home seemed almost…pointless. Because what do I have here? My sister has her dog. She absolutely couldn’t wait to come home so she could see and cuddle her pup. She was actually excited to come home. And I was absolutely not excited. I didn’t want to come home to school and work. Of course I was excited to see my friends and family, whom I love. But I felt like something was missing. I wasn’t jumping up and down in my seat, ready to get off the plane so I could go where I call home.
So, all in all, I’m actually torn on my vote for the 3 day vacay debate. It was wonderful to relax on the beach and get away. It was not wonderful to fly home after 3 days of beach bumming.
I did learn something about myself though. I’m absolutely 100% not where I want to be in my life. If you’re not excited to go home after being away for a few days, then is that really where you belong? If you feel like you don’t have anything to go home to then maybe you’re not doing what you’re meant to in this life. There’s someplace out there where your soul belongs. You’ll feel it. And when you do, that’s when you know you’re home.
So, actually, I’m changing my vote. DO IT. Go on a 3 day vacay because you can’t go wrong. You may come home feeling refreshed and ready to take on life. Or you may just learn something about yourself.
